Holy Week 2019

Palm Sunday, April 14 at 8 and 10  *

Bring branches from your garden to share as we remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.

At 10 a.m. we begin in the Gathering Place, to hear the Palm Sunday story and bless our branches. Weather permitting, we will process outside and enter the church by the 6th Street doors.

The service starts joyfully but the mood changes with the reading of the Passion according to Luke. This year, we will close with the stripping of the altar and a solemn close to the service.

Maundy Thursday, April 18 at 7 pm

This year we will remember Jesus’ last supper in a different way, gathering in the Gathering Place for Holy Eucharist and Foot Washing in the context of a simple meal. The choir will be there to support our singing at the table. This year, there will not be a
“Watch” or “Vigil” following the service.

Good Friday, April 19

Good Friday Liturgy at Noon in church, followed by Stations of the Cross.  Tenebrae at 7 p.m. in Holy Innocents’ Chapel.

This year, in addition to the traditional Good Friday liturgy, followed by the Stations of the Cross in the Garden (weather permitting) this year there will also be a dramatic evening service of Tenebrae (from the Latin for shadows or darkness), a service of chanted psalms and passages from scripture, rooted in Medieval monastic tradition.

Easter Vigil, Holy Baptism and First Eucharist of Easter 8 p.m. April 20

We will gather outside to light the new fire, to listen the history of God’s mighty acts and to proclaim the resurrection. We will be welcoming into the household of God by baptism Juliet Kubbe. This year there will be chanting and a small string ensemble to enhance our worship. There is no 5:30 service on this day. Bring a bell to ring in” the Easter season. Red eggs will be distributed and there will be a festive reception following the service. Incense will be used at this service.
