Grace is delighted to announce that we have called Laurie Ryan to serve as our new Music Director and Organist.
Laurie comes to us from the Church of the Holy Comforter in Burlington NC. She has served several Episcopal Churches, as well as synagogues, Unitarian, Methodist, Presbyterian and Baptist churches. She graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin with a degree in Music, concentrating in Organ Performance. She is an Associate of the American Guild of Organists, a performance diploma which tests many skills. She has taken several graduate level course. Laurie has worked with children’s and adult choirs and with instrumentalists in her varied church music career. She enjoys gardening and art, as well as music. She is a life-long learner. She has conducted large choral works like Schubert’s Mass in G Minor and Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio and “off the beaten path” works like Missa Criolla by Ramirez and a Blues Service. The committee valued her openness, sense of humor and appreciation of what it means to serve as part of a staff. Laurie is originally from Minnesota, so Michigan winters hold no terrors for her.
We look forward to welcoming her August 1. She is involved in various conferences and continuing education activities in June but will visit in July to look for somewhere to live.
