Music is a powerful way to experience the Holy One. We sing in times of joy and of sorrow. We sing praise and thanksgivings to God. Music is an important element of worship for Episcopalians. We use two hymnals at Grace. The Episcopal Hymnal 1982 and the Gather Hymnal (second edition).
Grace has a choir of about 20 voices who sing from September through Pentecost. A junior choir, organized by a volunteer, rehearses at 9:30 every Sunday and also sings from September through June. Both choirs welcome new members!
We have a Director of Music, Angel Gippert, who is a fine choral conductor. She accompanies our hymns and anthems on an E.M. Skinner Pipe Organ or on our 1893 Steinway or on a Roland Keyboard. The latter allows her to prerecord accompaniments so that she can conduct. Angel and her husband Carl, himself a retired music teacher and classical saxophone player, often offer duets and arrangements for preludes and postludes. Angel also gathers our student and adult instrumental musicians for Easter, Christmas and other special occasions, to complement the choir. On special occasions we have a piper.
Come and listen! Come and sing!
